Thanks to everyone who attended our Alustra event yesterday! We had a great turnout, and to our surprise, everyone received a gorgeous totebag with matching portfolio binder, AND a full set of memos samples and sales tools for the entire Alustra collection. It was like Christmas! We all learned a great deal from Deb Rubin, and I know that Alustra will be in the forefront of our minds when presenting Hunter Douglas products.

Another week has flown by, so we are that much closer to Spring!
Camille and I were at the Gift Show yesterday. We saw lots of transitional and contemporary items, with more silver than ever before. Lots of traditional items, like mercury glass and vintage looking pieces. Lots of rustic pieces with glitzy touches. We are happy to see that we are on the right track here at CDT! More accessories have arrived, and we have added some Charleston Forge tables to the floor. We plan on ordering lots more accessories and accent furniture in the coming weeks. These type of things are in big demand for those customers who want an update, but cannot totally re-do a room. Come take a look!
It seems that the effects of the economic downturn are still spilling over into our industry. As you have no doubt discovered, no one is carrying the inventory they used to. A couple months ago, another mill closed. This has resulted in tons of discontinued fabrics. Today we received a list from Fabricut of collections affected by a vendor that is restructuring. These trims will have limited availability until further notice. We are marking the Fabricut trim displays. However, it is imperative that you check stock on anything that is critical to your job before you sell it.
Robert Allen and Duralee have excellent websites that will enable you to do this easily. Our memo room will be happy to check on your Fabricut items. We must all be proactive to protect ourselves from unnecessary work. So, take the time to get familiar with your fabric websites. The time invested now will pay off later.

Freezing rain gale force winds and bitter cold did not stop out 2009 Top Ten designers from enjoying a beautiful evening in their honor. They arrived, champagne in hand via limousine at the 4 Diamond rated Le Titi de Paris where they were our honored guests for an evening of celebration. The food was exceptional, and the conversation and camaraderie was even better. From all reports, a great time was had by all. Congratulations to all of them. Happy New Year!
Thank God 2009 is over. I know we are all looking forward to a fresh start in 2010. We challenge you to get on the phone and contact all--ALL your clients, past and present. Many folks who were not deeply affected by the recession are beginning to come out of the woodwork, itching to update their homes, complete projects that were put on hold or left unfinished. Let's all capitalize on the pent up demand! Lets stimulate the economy! Let's all make money in 2010!
Char tells me we have tons of discontinued memo and rack swatches available to the first people who come to claim them. Just pull up to the memo room door and they are yours!
From Jody and Andrea: If you order a cutting and do not receive it within 7 business days, please call us and we will order another one. Also, if you receive a CFA and are not able to use it, please call and cancel it. Some other designer may need your yardage. Vendors are not stocking the quantities that they used to so let's all help each other get what we need.

Big Fish Art has come out with an interesting new approach. They call it Art Match.
Choose from 200 images and 150 colors. Your image will be printed in that color. This is a great way to add color to a room. We love the transitional look this gives simple botanicals. A number of them are available with clear glass matting.

All of us hear at Chicago Design Team want to wish all of you a holiday filled with peace, joy and love. We hope you have wonderful times with family and friends, and that 2010 will be a great year. Hard Window Treatment News: Important installation info: Effective January 1, CDT will no longer be billing you for R.Perotti installations. Please have your client pay him directly at the time of installation, or be prepared to do so yourself. All other window treatment procedures will remain the same.

We are now in the part of December where the days seem to be compressed into minutes, and Christmas is just around the corner. How could it already be December 17? We want to thank Joyce Konstantinow of Blooms and Rooms for giving our showroom such a festive flavor! We are so happy to have her help throughout the year. Silk and Things and Flowers by Design also help keep our showroom looking great.
We have gotten several shipments of accessories, lamps and artwork these past couple of weeks, so if you need anything, stop in!
Remember, we have lots of great little clocks. Many of these would make great gifts for clients, and the wristwatch style alarm clocks are great for those hard-to shop for men.

A couple of little tidbits this week:
We have an off whiteish/beige thigh length raincoat in our closet. It has white top stitching and the label has been cut out. It has been here for a while. Does it belong to you?
Effective immediately, there are new prices in effect for Charleston Forge. Also a beautiful new catalog. If you have a job in the works, please get it re-quoted.
Clients are getting sneakier and more and more savvy. We recently have had several incidents where people have tried to bypass their designer while using the Arlington Design Center. In order to protect you, the designer, we have tightened up our policies a bit. PLEASE CALL IN ADVANCE IF YOU ARE SENDING IN A CLIENT. We are happy to point them in the right direction, and assist them when time and traffic permit. However, please remember that we do not have the staff to really advise them. Plus, we do not want to say something that might contradict or undermine what you have done. If they come in without advance warning, we will try to call you to see how you want them to be handled. If we are unable to reach you, we will help them make a loan out list, but we will NOT GIVE THEM MEMOS OR OTHER SAMPLES UNTIL WE HAVE YOUR PERMISSION. We hope you understand the reasons behind this, and will explain the situation to your client. You MUST call EACH TIME they come in! Again, this is for your protection.

December is here, snow flurries are swirling outside as I write thiw. CDT has decorations up, carols playing and hot cider in the crock pot. We hope we will be seeing each of you in the next few weeks so that we can wish you "Happy Holidays" in person!

Many of you may not be aware that Dinec has a wonderful selection of traditional styled chairs, legs and has added new bases for those of you who do not need the transitional look. There are more rustic finishes available as well. One of the most exciting elements from Dinec is the new self storing leaf option (below). This can be ordered on many table sizes, with legs only, not with bases. Also, please notice the thickness of the top on the table above! This is a gorgeous feature from the Prestige Collection. December is here, snow flurries are swirling outside as I write thiw. CDT has decorations up, carols playing and hot cider in the crock pot. We hope we will be seeing each of you in the next few weeks so that we can wish you "Happy Holidays" in person!
Dinec
Many of you may not be aware that Dinec has a wonderful selection of traditional styled chairs, legs and has added new bases for those of you who do not need the transitional look. There are more rustic finishes available as well. One of the most exciting elements from Dinec is the new self storing leaf option (below). This can be ordered on many table sizes, with legs only, not with bases. Also, please notice the thickness of the top on the table above! This is a gorgeous feature from the Prestige Collection. Dinec finishes the UNDERSIDE of their tables, and inside the drawers. Drawers feature full extension, self-closing glides. All Dinec products are made in Canada out of Canadian Birch.
