Mark your calendars for January 27. ChrisAnn Komosa will teach us what we need to know to sell the gorgeous Alustra collection. Topics include being able to answer the question"Why Alustra?", understanding the difference between Alustra and other products, and undemanding the Alustra consumer. We are now in the part of December where the days seem to be compressed into minutes, and Christmas is just around the corner. How could it already be December 17? We want to thank Joyce Konstantinow of Blooms and Rooms for giving our showroom such a festive flavor! We are so happy to have her help throughout the year. Silk and Things and Flowers by Design also help keep our showroom looking great.
We have gotten several shipments of accessories, lamps and artwork these past couple of weeks, so if you need anything, stop in!
Remember, we have lots of great little clocks. Many of these would make great gifts for clients, and the wristwatch style alarm clocks are great for those hard-to shop for men.

Are we enjoying winter yet? Boy, we sure didn't get any time to ease our way into it this year did we? Hope you are staying warm.
A couple of little tidbits this week:
We have an off whiteish/beige thigh length raincoat in our closet. It has white top stitching and the label has been cut out. It has been here for a while. Does it belong to you?
Effective immediately, there are new prices in effect for Charleston Forge. Also a beautiful new catalog. If you have a job in the works, please get it re-quoted.
Clients are getting sneakier and more and more savvy. We recently have had several incidents where people have tried to bypass their designer while using the Arlington Design Center. In order to protect you, the designer, we have tightened up our policies a bit. PLEASE CALL IN ADVANCE IF YOU ARE SENDING IN A CLIENT. We are happy to point them in the right direction, and assist them when time and traffic permit. However, please remember that we do not have the staff to really advise them. Plus, we do not want to say something that might contradict or undermine what you have done. If they come in without advance warning, we will try to call you to see how you want them to be handled. If we are unable to reach you, we will help them make a loan out list, but we will NOT GIVE THEM MEMOS OR OTHER SAMPLES UNTIL WE HAVE YOUR PERMISSION. We hope you understand the reasons behind this, and will explain the situation to your client. You MUST call EACH TIME they come in! Again, this is for your protection.

December is here, snow flurries are swirling outside as I write thiw. CDT has decorations up, carols playing and hot cider in the crock pot. We hope we will be seeing each of you in the next few weeks so that we can wish you "Happy Holidays" in person!

Many of you may not be aware that Dinec has a wonderful selection of traditional styled chairs, legs and has added new bases for those of you who do not need the transitional look. Many of you may not be aware that Dinec has a wonderful selection of traditional styled chairs, legs and has added new bases for those of you who do not need the transitional look. There are more rustic finishes available as well. One of the most exciting elements from Dinec is the new self storing leaf option (below). All of us at CDT have much to be thankful for this year! Our business has survived this year of economic uncertainty, we still have our wonderful staff intact and all of our vendors are still with us!
We are so grateful for Jody, Andrea, Eve, Char, Sharon, Mary Kay and Faith for their loyalty, great attitudes and being the best team we could ever ask for!
We are thankful for our steady stream of interns who pick up the slack and help make our jobs so much easier.
We are thankful for our fellow ADC showrooms and their staffs. We all help each other, and it makes it a real pleasure to come to work. Special thanks to Keith and his warehouse guys and to Joe Caminiti, our landlord, mentor and dear friend.

who attended our second annual sample sale! It was a great success and a lot of fun. Some folks got some fabulous deals. We have a table on the floor in the Fabricut room with some remaining accessories, still with sample sale prices! Some examples are pictured above, but there are others as well. They will be out through next week, when they will be packed away for next year.
We have 2 small tables that will remain on the floor with the sale prices. They are a bit shopworn, but still good looking. They will be sold "AS IS". Come in and take a look!

Hope this finds you all well and enjoying the nice fall. Here is a quick business tip that might be of interest. If you sell custom draperies, you must charge sales tax on the FINISHED PRODUCT including labor. You are selling draperies, not cut yardage. Back in the 80's this law changed. If you only charge tax on the yardage you could be liable for tax penalties should you be audited.

The latest Traditional Home features their annual "Classic Woman" awards. Chicago designer Susan Fredman is one of the honorees, for her founding of Designs for Dignity. Congratulations to Susan.
It is almost time to start planning our "Toasting the Top Ten" event!Where did the year go?? Won't we be glad when it's over??!!
At any rate, if you have had good sales with CDT, Robert Allen and Duralee (these sales are tracked separately) be aware that the promotion ends December 16. A word of advice: Furniture sales is what does it, because it's big ticket items that add up VERY quickly.

As many of you know, Robert Allen and Sherwin Williams recently joined forces to create color pallets that compliment each other. We have literature here at CDT that shows the possibilities. You can now co to the Robert Allen web site and click on "Design Studio." This takes you to a display of complete packages of fabric, paint and trim that work together beautifully. You can click again to order the total package of swatches. It's a great time saver, especially if you are working late at night, are home sick or working on a vacation home, model or other job where intense design work is not warranted, not in the budget, or not in the time frame. This would enable you to put a look together in minutes, and also eliminates the uncertainty of choosing paint. We were pleasantly surprised, and hope you will be too!

As many of you know, Robert Allen and Sherwin Williams recently joined forces to create color pallets that compliment each other. We have literature here at CDT that shows the possibilities. You can now co to the Robert Allen web site and click on "Design Studio." This takes you to a display of complete packages of fabric, paint and trim that work together beautifully. You can click again to order the total package of swatches. It's a great time saver, especially if you are working late at night, are home sick or working on a vacation home, model or other job where intense design work is not warranted, not in the budget, or not in the time frame. This would enable you to put a look together in minutes, and also eliminates the uncertainty of choosing paint. We were pleasantly surprised, and hope you will be too!

Not too many announcements today for a change! Please take note that the upcoming Hunter Douglas training has been cancelled and will be postponed. Stay tuned for a new date.
We have a great new collection of contemporary looks from Fabricut , designed by up and coming design star Amy Lau. Hip, youthful and sophisticated, these fabrics are unlike anything else we have in the showroom. Great coordinates too! Stop in and take a look!

Camille and Vicki were happy to be the guests of Hunter Douglas Northeast last week. We visited Baltimore--very fun city---and then headed West to tiny Cumberland Maryland for training and a plant tour.
This is a HUGE facility, spotlessly clean and very efficient. Tons of safety precautions are in place and lots of nice perks for employees, including a gym and on-site day care. They now recycle so much that they have reduced their trash pick ups from twice a day to once a week! We were fascinated by the technology that is used to create the wonderful products, but what astonished us was the enormous amount of work that is done by hand by human beings. It really gave us new respect for the care and effort that goes into each piece, and a more understanding view of how few problems we actually have, in view of the enormity and complexity of the processes. Provenance is especially labor intensive. A worker can make 8 Provenance shades a day, compared to 22 mini blinds PER HOUR!

(So if your installer says he did not get hardware...tell him to look again!) Shutter rails are hand glued. This machine shoots slats into mini blind ladders.

How time flies! Seems like I just did this.
As a reminder, please SIGN IN when you visit the showroom. We know some of you hate it (don't understand why) but it helps us in many ways. We track our traffic and sales, and it is very instructive to see what happens from day to day and month to month. It helps us learn names and remember conversations and who we had them with. We do not EVER share your information with outside vendors, and as I said, it is helpful in many ways. Please humor us in this small matter--so "enter and sign in please."

We continue to get rave reviews for the Deborah Flate Seminars. Tess Horak of Inventive Interiors by Tess told us that she has participated in other coachings and that she learned more in the first class than she had in an entire series! Similar comments have come from other participants. If there is interest, we can consider doing a second series in the spring. Let us know if you would like to be on the list of possible participants. Details on the location of the remaining classes is on the schedule at right. If you need further guidance, just call us. From now on the LCD projector and screen will be used, and the room will be set up classroom style with tables, so note taking will be easier.
Among the topics of ChrisAnn Komosa's Hunter Douglas seminar is coordinating Skyline with Designer Screen and Roller shades, Pirouette, a new program from Chalet Woods and ways use upgrades to increase your profits. Designer Screen shades and Pirouette are very hot right now so don't miss this. This class is aimed at the things that seem to "fall through the cracks" when selling hard window coverings. Recliners!
Some of you may have seen the article in the October 21 Daily Herald called "Recliner no Decliner". According to the article, Furniture Today reported that despite the overall downturn in furniture sales, recliner sales have increased in 2009 and are projected to climb in 2010! This is attributed to the "stay-cation" frame of mind, home theaters and the aging of the baby boomers. I know that many designers do not like recliners, and associate them with the big, saddlebag styles of the 70' and 80's. However, Taylor King and Bradington Young both have many styles that would complement any room, such as the transitional chair from Taylor King shown here. Why send them to the Lazy Boy store when you can give them a better quality chair that satisfies the design requirements you have for the room? Check it out at CDT!

Fall is racing by, and we are packing the calendar with all sorts of interesting programs for you to attend and develop your arsenal of skills. Then we can do the holiday thing, collapse for a few days and start over with a new year. Doesn't the idea of a "new year" sound great?
With the crummy weather comes cold and flu season. All of us here do your very best to keep any cooties to ourselves...even if this means staying home. It's always best to stay in and take care of ourselves. Those clients can wait, and you're doing the rest of the world a favor. Some things are better not shared! We hope all of you will stay healthy!
As you may have noticed, vendors are not stocking inventory the way they used to. Often, fabric will not even be ordered from a mill until they have an order for it, which may mean several week back order. Fabrics are also discontinued at a moment's notice. While this has always been true, its worse than ever now. We get discontinued lists monthly, and occasional updates in between. Because we recognize the problems this can cause, we do our best to keep our racks "clean". The books are much harder to keep updated.
If you are working with a fabric of critical importance to your design, ALWAYS check stock before you plan a room around it. If the client does not decide promptly, check again before finalizing your plans. Remember, you can call or visit Robert Allen and Duralee's websites to check stock, or call CDT and our memo room staff will be happy to check availability for you. Remember though, that info is only current for a short time.
On a happier note, if you are ordering, or have recently ordered Duette Architella shades, you MAY be eligible to receive a Federal Tax credit for up to $1,500!!!! This is retroactive to January 1, 2009 and runs through December 31, 2010. WOO HOO---this is part of the stimulus plan. Not all Architellas qualify, and we do not have full details yet, but stay tuned!

Our most pressing item today is the location of the Deborah Flate followup classes. Tuesday's class will be held in the CDT showroom. Our original intention was to hold them in Building 3 and set up classroom style with tables. However there are some electrical issues with the room, so just come to CDT. Hopefully the next rest of the series will be down the street.
Fabricut Fabrics - Zenith and Meridian
We just received these two new books from Fabricut and could not wait to tell you about them. Zenith looks like raw silk, has a great hand and comes in dozens of great colors. It is a "Green" fabric and passes Oeko Tex Standard 100.
It has a Wyzenbeek rating of 201,000 double rubs. (No that is not a typo!!)
Meridian is not green but has the same durability rating and great look as Zenith. It's more textural, almost a burlap with an extensive color palette Zenith retails for only $53.90. Meridian retails for $53.00

I almost hate to say this, so lets all knock wood...things have been busier this week than we have seen in a while. Everyone reports that clients are coming out of hibernation. Lets hope this is true and that it continues. Accessories have just flown out the door. We are re-arranging the showroom this weekend so new things will be out next week. Do an extra good "browse around when you are in next.
A word of caution...if you have a problem with a vendor, delivery service etc. and feel the need to vent, please remember to come in to the office to do it. Remember that there are frequently designers on the floor with clients who do not need to hear about our difficulties. The same goes for discussing discounts. We had a situation recently that required some damage control so let's all of us try to be discreet.

Our 2 fall events, the Deborah Flate sales and marketing training, and the Barclay Butera appearance and book signing, are coming up fast. If you have not signed up for these events, please do so as soon as possible so that we can plan seating and refreshments.
Last week a designer expressed concern that the first Deborah Flate presentation was just "a sales pitch for the follow up classes", and wondering if it was worth attending. Let me take this opportunity to clarify this for everyone. Deborah is committed to making this first class a valuable use of every attendee's time. The topics were chosen because they are areas where many of us are weak. Let's face it, we do not really NEED more classes on product or color or design. Those are fun, and within our comfort zone but we are all pretty well versed in these areas. Subjects like branding and social networking are uncharted territory for many of us, due to age, lack of computer skills or just being right-brained...(or are we artistic types left brained??) I rest my case.
Anyway, the small admission price is a way to make having a speaker like Deborah available to all of us at a reasonable price. We also wanted to ensure that the audience is made up of designers who truly want to learn about the topics. A small fee helps keep the group to a more manageable size which streamlines things, especially when it comes to questions. For some designers, the first class will be enough. For those who are ready to take their marketing efforts to the next level, more detailed, more personalized information will be needed. The follow up classes are for them. Rest assured, you will get your money's worth whichever route you chose.
If you are planning on being in business and growing in the next few years, it is important to keep up with the current ways of marketing. I was at Barnes and Noble and Borders yesterday, and the business aisles were full of books on these topics. It's important to keep up with ALL the trends...not just the ones that deal with decorating. Think back even 5 years ago. Many of us did not even do e-mail. Only a few designers had web sites. Marketing is undergoing a huge change. All of us need to "catch the wave".

It has come to our attention that during the course of the past few months, about a dozen items have disappeared from the showroom. It is hard to imagine, given the size and description of the items, that someone stole them. They would have to be a better thief than designer! Clearly we have to tighten up our procedures for accessory loan outs. So, effective immediately, all items going out on approval will go out via the memo room door ONLY.
Meanwhile, if you took out accessories and have not been billed, please let us know.
Did anyone buy the small metal cone-shaped planters with greenery that were on the wall by the memo room? The white ceramic rooster??? We are baffled!

Accessories Galore!
Hello All!
In an effort to keep things fresh here at CDT we have added several new accessory lines to our mix. Most are things discovered at the Atlanta gift show. They have large minimums so they will not be shown in catalogs, but will augment our efforts to provide you with the wide array of accessories you have come to love at CDT. We are rearranging the showroom the weekend before the Barclay Butera seminar, so you will have lots of great things to feast your eyes upon when you come in that week. Sale upholstery will vanish from our floor at that time, so if you have had your eye on something, this is the last chance!
One of the hottest trends we are seeing, at both the fabric sales meetings and the markets is what we are calling "Rustic Glamour".
Linen and Burlap embossed with metallic damask designs. Heavily distressed items with gold leaf accents. French seems strong too.
And yet, with all the glitz, things are still simple and casual. Lighter woods...I even saw light woods at Pottery Barn in Dallas!
Mercury Glass seems to be everywhere, and we will have several great pieces. Again, the mix of rustic and old with a sparkle. Its a fun way to dress up a space without being too serious. For those who just can't bring themselves to do the shiny thing, Mercury Glass is a great accent for the holidays, or winter decor in general.

Timeworks
We were thrilled to find this great collection of clocks. Sizes range from huge 31" wall clocks to tiny pendulum wall clocks and everything in between. The tabletop clocks are also terrific. We especially love these oversize alarm clocks based on men's wristwatches. Several styles available here too. Since our opening order from a month a go has almost sold out, we have ordered a huge shipment of clocks--heavy on the the small ones.
These would make a great gift for a client as a thank you for a nice order, or a perfect gift for a hard- to- buy- for guy. Best of all (for me, at least) is that the alarm clocks are simple to read and set. How many times have you been in a guest room where no one in the home remembers how to set the alarm clock?

One of the hottest trends we are seeing, at both the fabric sales meetings and the markets is what we are calling "Rustic Glamour".
Linen and Burlap embossed with metallic damask designs. Heavily distressed items with gold leaf accents. French seems strong too.
And yet, with all the glitz, things are still simple and casual. Lighter woods...I even saw light woods at Pottery Barn in Dallas!
Mercury Glass seems to be everywhere, and we will have several great pieces. Again, the mix of rustic and old with a sparkle. Its a fun way to dress up a space without being too serious. For those who just can't bring themselves to do the shiny thing, Mercury Glass is a great accent for the holidays, or winter decor in general.

Timeworks
We were thrilled to find this great collection of clocks. Sizes range from huge 31" wall clocks to tiny pendulum wall clocks and everything in between. The tabletop clocks are also terrific. We especially love these oversize alarm clocks based on men's wristwatches. Several styles available here too. Since our opening order from a month a go has almost sold out, we have ordered a huge shipment of clocks--heavy on the the small ones.

Hello! Lots of news this week. First off, thanks to Andrea for our new look for this e-mail. Thanks also to Faith and Amy who developed a new format for our sign in book. They consolidated the sign in and the e-mail address update form. Wonder why we never thought of this sooner?? There is also a special little perk for this year's top 25 designers: Your initials appear at the side of the form. Instead of signing in, just check off the box by your name. We are always trying to help you be efficient...even 5 seconds helps!
We have new fabrics from Taylor King in the showroom now. Some new upholstered pieces from TK have been ordered and should be on the floor by late September.
Please help us keep costs down by using the black and white copier whenever possible. We go through an astonishing amount of color ink. We are delighted to make you color copies, but lets try to limit them to the photos where color really matters. Remember, you can always go to our website, link to a vendor and print copies at home. You can store them in a folder for your client this way too, which keeps them from getting lost or rumpled.

Week of 8-7-09
Isn't it astonishing that it is almost the end of Summer? The kids will be back in school before we know it. (Dare I say YAY??) We have had a busy month here at CDT and this past week was one of best we've had in a while. Unemployment numbers have dropped, so we believe that the worst is over. We are positioning ourselves for a great fall. New upholstery is on order, items we are tired of looking at are marked down. Take advantage of the great sales on floor samples. Fabricut's national sales meeting was last weekend. WOW! As an employee owned company, Fabricut is very financially conservative, which put them in great position to ride out the economic downturn, and they are poised to explode with new product over the course of the next 6 months. Wonderful new product is coming, with licensed collections from design Grand Dame Lillian August and rising star Amy Lau.
The Lillian August collection is traditional, with a clean, uptown ambiance. In her presentation, Ms. August shared her thoughts on upcoming trends. She believes that neutrals and connecting with nature will be very important. Chocolate and green will continue to be strong, with grays ranging from soft blue to charcoal will be the new color addition, with black accents for drama. Linen will be bigger than ever.
Amy Lau's contemporary collection takes it's influence from both classic mid-century modern design, abstract and impressionist art.
Old Biscayne
Many of you are familiar with this terrific line of iron beds and casegoods. They offer excellent quality, a huge array of finishes (all for the same price) and virtually unlimited customization. Plasma popups, pocket doors, wine racks, CD storage, whatever your client needs, Old Biscayne can provide. Any size, any configuration. For example, you could take the wall unit above, and turn it into almost anything you need. They will provide you with a CAD drawing with full specs and in about 12 weeks it will be on the way. We hope that all of you are enjoying the summer, but getting ready to gear up for fall. Economic indicators continue to improve, so we are all hoping to see a jump in the design business shortly. We are getting the vibe that clients are starting to get the "itch" again. We are busy planning new product for fall. We have accessories on order, after days spent at the gift shows in Atlanta and Chicago. New floor samples from Taylor King and Temple are being selected. We are sensing a change on the wind as far as a "hot new new look". We think it's lighter wood, more traditional. but updated with cleaner lines, simpler styles and contemporary and transitional accents. Natural (or natural looking) fabrics seem to be very big. Lots of neutral rooms with punches of a single color. In the "natural" vein, rustic looking accessories seem to be very big. We theorize that the "green" movement is showing itself in an appreciation of nature and nature motifs. We would be interested to hear if any of you have noticed this as well, or have any thoughts on what is coming up.

Our product of the week is a great collection of case goods, upholstery and accessories, all of which are embodied in this darling dog bed! Every piece we have sold from this line has drawn rave reviews. It's affordable, great quality for the money, but NOT low end. Their fabrics are beautiful. Be sure to check them out at CDT.
Volunteering at Feed my Starving Children in Aurora
Here is a photo of our staff, family and friends volunteering at Feed My Starving Children. This amazing organization ships packages of nutritious food to Haiti, Africa and other countries where thousands of children starve to death on a daily basis. The prepackaged meals have been designed to provide complete nutrition just by adding water. It's really an amazing story, which you can learn about if you google them. In the 2-hour session we worked at, there were 31 volunteers. We packaged enough food to provide meals for 29 children for one year--- in effect saving 29 lives. What a staggering thought. We had a lot of fun too! Thanks to Andrea and Eve for planning this.

The prepackaged meals have been designed to provide complete nutrition just by adding water. It's really an amazing story, which you can learn about if you google them. In the 2-hour session we worked at, there were 31 volunteers. We packaged enough food to provide meals for 29 children for one year--- in effect saving 29 lives. What a staggering thought. We had a lot of fun too! Thanks to Andrea and Eve for planning this.

CDT floor sample sale:
All Temple, Taylor King and Ferguson Copeland upholstered items on our showroom floor have been DRASTICALLY REDUCED. These beautiful things will not be here long at these prices. To protect our designers, there are sale tags on these items, but no prices. Ask a staff member for the sale flyer.
Our lamp sale continues! There are only a few sale lamps left. All lamps that were here before mid April are also on sale. Take an extra 20% on the first lamp, and 20%-10% on 2 or more lamps.
We have several stacks of postcards from Robert Allen, if anyone would like to use them for marketing purposes, just ask the memo room. You can have all you want.
The Beacon Hill showroom is offering an additional 10% on Ferguson Copeland, Guy Chaddock and Robert Allen furniture through July 31. CDT will match these prices.

This line is a very well kept secret! Hand crafted in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, it's quality is typical of a region famous for it's arts and crafts, especially fine furniture.
Mayland Court specializes in creating exceptional finishes. They have 35 in house finishes, and they are happy to do a custom match for you. In addition, they employ a staff of artisans who hand paint an array of lovely designs, similar to the one you see at right. They can copy any design you send them, from a fabric, a wallpaper, a painting, whatever inspires you. Many pieces can be custom sized.
We have 2 lovely Mayland Court pieces on the showroom floor, a large marble topped chest, and a show stopping red demilune chest with stained wood accents and hand painted details. Prices compare with Old Biscayne. The teardrop chest shown at the right retails for $2365--base price. Ask to see them the next time you are in the showroom.We can guarantee that you will be delighted with the quality.

Hello, Everyone! Hope you all had a fun 4TH of July weekend and are back working hard again. We have decided to add a new feature to our newsletter--a product knowledge section, focusing on a different vendor each week. We hope that this will encourage you to explore those catalogs that you have never opened. You will find all sorts of treasures once you do. Keep in mind that we check into our lines pretty carefully, so you can feel comfortable ordering from any of them.
Fauld
Fauld is a wonderful company that produces lovely English period
reproductions. We like it because the focus is on the more casual
pieces, not the 18th century formal styles, although there are plenty
of formal pieces to choose from.
The Cambridge and Cotswold Collections are available only as shown. There are barstools, chairs, benches, wonderful blanket chests
and a wide variety of tables, similar to the one pictured. These items are stocked in North Carolina. End tables run in the $1,000-$2,000 range
The Solid Traditions Group contains a
full array of styles, including servers, hutches, dining and occasional. This collection can be custom finished and many items can be custom sized. A variety of leg styles are available, and levels of distressing can be specified.
This group is higher end, and is made in the United Kingdom. Custom quotes take about 24 hours. Strike offs will be sent in about 2 weeks.Lead time on this collection is 12-16 weeks.
Next time you are in the showroom, look over the Fauld catalog. It's a good line to be aware of.

CDT News Week of 6-19-09
Good News!
Color is back!!! I am sure that all of you are as tired of brown, bronze and browned-out shades as we are. Robert Allen's design team visited us this past week, and told us that they are anticipating a "return to pretty"! At our Duralee Furniture seminar on Tuesday we saw photos of their High Point showroom for spring, all decked out in white with splashes of hot orange and pink. Dazzling!
We are seeing lots of blue--after how many years? Rumor has it that purple is on the horizon for fall. Check out the new "Veranda" magazine. All the wood finishes are mid tones like maple and pecan. Nary a "Pottery Barn black/brown in sight.
People are hungry for cheerful colors...what will this mean for hemlines???
New Accessories
We have just received a new shipment of orchids, greenery and 2 LARGE trees!
We are in the process of placing about a dozen new pieces of art, and have received some new tabletop items, including great large trays. More will be arriving shortly.
Great Marketing Idea!!
Thanks to Janet Perry of Periwinkle Designs for this GREAT idea:
Janet brings groups of new and potential customers on a "Field Trip" to the Arlington Design Center. They do lunch nearby and Janet shows them around the various showrooms, stressing, of course, that they will not be allowed in without her. This whets their appetite for what we have available, and gives them a taste of what working with her would be like. Janet did this in Boston before moving here, and has continued with great success.
Again, our thanks to Janet for her generosity. If anyone else has an idea to pass on, we would love to do so. We can all learn so much from each other.

Duralee Seminar
OK...so there IS still brown in this picture!
This is a shot of the gorgeous Duralee showroom in High Point. Featuring both Duralee Fine Furniture and Owner Select, this showroom drew crowds and lots of press at the spring market. Look for these fabrics and many more in the new Simply Modern collection.
In preparation for our seminar Camille did some research into Duralee's price structure. Many designers are afraid that Duralee's prices will be too high, because they are 100% COM. The results even surprised us. We compared a basic sofa of similar size and style, with similarly priced and graded fabric from Duralee, Owner Select,Ferguson Copeland, Century and Henredon. Beleive it or not, each of these sofas came in within $100 of each other.
Bear in mind that Duralee and Owner Select give an additional fabric discount if you use Duralee or Highland Court fabric, with over 25,000 fabrics to choose from!
This was eye opening for us, and for the designers at the seminar...and it opens up a huge range of products to choose from at that price point. If you would like
to see the actual price comparisons, we will have it here at the showroom.
What Andrea Can Do For You!
Many of you may be unaware that Andrea does CAD and rendering work for several of our designers on the side. We have never formally anounced it but we have noticed lately that there is a larger calling for it. If you don't have the experience or the time to use these programs but want a professional computer drafted / rendered project - just call Andrea. She has done everything from simple CAD line drawings in scale to full presentation boards with renderings including draperies and accessories.

Hello, Designers!
Much of this e-mail is the same as last week, but all of it bears repeating, so scan over to refresh your memory! Here is the very latest news:
We have added beautiful lighting from Sedgefield. Lots of lovely crystal, brass,and other traditional and transitional pieces. Some great floor lamps.
Several items will be on our floor shortly.
Speaking of accessories, we just received shipments of Oriental Accents and Elizabeth Marshall. More accessories will be here in the next couple weeks.
Silk trees, orchids and more will be here late next week. Stop in and go shopping. Remember, accessories are fun and easy money!
Fabricut has decided to place some of their "Trend" fabric collection in the showrooms. We have received several books, which are hanging on the small divider walls in the Fabricut room. This is a great addition to your arsenal of moderately priced fabrics. More books will be arriving over the summer.
Remember to attend our upcoming furniture training!
Tuesday, June 16 from 10:30-1:00 Jerry Hoffman and Walt Kozy from Duralee will be presenting a "Back to Basics" seminar. Camille and Vicki will finish the program with tips on how to sell furniture when your client can't sit on it.
We have heard from several of our vendors this past week, telling us that they think that the fall season will be a good one. They are hiring again, and starting to introduce new collections and building up stock. What are you doing to prepare for this? Attending this seminar might be a good step!
